“Play Touch Rugby League was an initiative that was launched by Hull City Council designed to address health inequalities across Hull through raising sport and physical activity participation levels.

Under the “Active Hull” banner Play Touch Rugby League has helped to improve participation levels within recreational sport and physical activity across the city."

“This was our first year of operation as a Play Touch Rugby League Licence and it’s been a lot of fun.

We have been successful in running a nine team league and have learnt a lot over the first season.

Key for next year will be to get the mix of fun and competition balance right, our thoughts are to grow to two leagues.

It's been a steep learning curve but as we've become familiar with the format and fine tuning procedures it’s become an easy format to run.”

“To be given the opportunity to become a Play Touch Rugby League licensee was a massive chance for me and my team to help grow the sport of Rugby League in the South using PTRL as the method.

It’s great to be part of the programme that enables males and females to play together getting fit and having fun.

As we like to say at Touch Rugby Kent “Fitness through fun” but it has also helped the club grow and generate new income.”

“The launch of the new Play Touch Rugby League (PTRL) programme this year has been a huge success here at the Vikings.

Our competition has expanded since we kicked off in April, with 10 teams having now participated, putting us in a fantastic position to launch further PTRL programmes in the future.

The success of the league has been supported by the RFL from the very start, and the PTRL team have made it really easy for me as a licensee.

This has been done through a number of different ways from a bursary to help get the league up and running, to roadshows and surprise visits to help the increase in participation.

I look forward to signing the Vikings up to run another Play Touch Rugby League competition next year.”
